UK Private Medical Cannabis Clinics

UPDATE: March 2020 – The Beeches, in Manchester, has closed for the time being.

Since the first Care Quality Commission (CQC) approved private medical clinic specialising in Medical Cannabis, The Beeches, opened in Manchester in March 2019, just 4 months after the law changed to allow specialist doctors to prescribe Cannabis-Based Medicinal Products, there has been a slow but steady roll-out around the country and it does look like we will be seeing many more over the next six months or so. In addition, we are beginning to see a significant drop in prices along with a game changing reduction in the time it takes between a qualifying patient getting their prescription and actually getting their cannabis medicine. 

The first few prescriptions cost anything between £800 and £2000 per month depending on the size of the prescription and the product and could take up to 3 months to be fulfilled whereas right now we are seeing prices as lower than £400 for similar prescriptions, though one must still take the specialist consultant fees into account which vary from around £150-£250 per appointment. More recent good news is that patients can look forward to having their prescriptions fulfilled within just a few days thanks to the most recent changes announced by the Home Office last week: Government lifts bulk-buy importing restrictions on medical cannabis.

All great news, for patients that can afford it! We can only hope that our NHS prescribing catches up soon, but with the most recent NICE Guidelines being very cautious, we almost certainly have a long way to go yet.
