A new study is shaking things up!
Turns out, prescription cannabis might just be the ultimate life hack for folks 50 and older struggling with pain and sleep issues. Researchers found that prescription cannabis isn’t just safe but actually effective in easing pain, improving sleep, and boosting overall quality of life.
The Highlights:
229 participants from British Columbia and Ontario, Canada (average age: 66.7) took part.
90% used prescription cannabis for pain-related conditions (arthritis and chronic pain!).
66.2% were women proving that ladies are leading the charge in the green revolution.
Nearly half saw major improvements in pain interference and sleep quality.
50% of those on other meds reduced their intake saving money while getting relief.
CBD Over THC? Seniors Are Benefiting
Rather than sparking up joints, most patients went for edibles, extracts, and oral products, preferring CBD-heavy formulas with just a sprinkle of THC.
The result? Better pain management without the couch-lock or paranoia.
Bye-Bye, Expensive Meds!
The green medicine didn’t just improve health it also slashed prescription drug costs.
Monthly medication costs dropped from $74.10 to $28.70 a 61.3% reduction!
Nearly all patients reported no serious side effects and less than 5% experienced mild issues like nausea or feeling a little high.
The Verdict?
Prescription Cannabis Is a Game-Changer
The study, published in Cannabis journal, is one of the largest ever conducted on older medical cannabis users. Researchers from Greenly Medical Consulting, Tilray, and the University of Victoria say these findings justify more clinical trials and further research.
With improved quality of life, reduced prescription drug use, and lower healthcare costs, the message is loud and clear: for many older adults, cannabis isn’t just a buzz it’s a medical breakthrough.
So, next time you visit your Grandparents, don’t be surprised if they swapped the pill organizer for a cannabis tincture!
