The high-profile Californian cannabis brand Cookies will soon be available in the UK and Europe, after the company signed a deal to distribute dried flower and extracts with Portugal-based biotech company SOMAÍ.
The deal, which will allow SOMAÍ to exclusively cultivate, manufacture, and distribute on behalf of Cookies, will see a range of branded products launched in the UK, Germany, Portugal, Poland, Malta, and the Czech Republic later this year.
Cookies has established itself as a well-known cannabis brand in the US and across the globe, with dispensary openings in the US regularly attracting large crowds. Founded in 2010 by West Coast Rapper Berner and cultivator Jai, the company has over 70 retail locations in 20 markets across 6 countries.
Under the terms of the deal, a subsidiary of SOMAÍ will grow Cookies licensed genetics at indoor cultivation facilities in Portugal, and import Cookies branded products for distribution across Europe. Flower grown under the agreement will also be processed into Cookies branded oral drops, soft gel capsules, vape oils and gummies to meet the demands of the growing medical cannabis markets in countries such as the UK and Germany.
“Germany is an exciting market for me for multiple reasons, the energy and vibe around legalization is contagious and is opening the doors for Europe,” said Gilbert Milam Jr, aka Berner, CEO and co-founder of Cookies. “The UK has been fascinated with California cannabis and helped build the hype on some of the biggest strains in the USA. This partnership is about to be a powerful one, and I can’t express how ready I am to share our genetics with Europe.”
Cookies branded products are set to be launched in the UK and Europe in July, according to Michael Sassano, the founder and interim CEO of SOMAÍ. “Making an EU-GMP product line of extracts for Cookies is a global product that we hope to bring to more and more countries as they allow cannabis extracts”
