A patient-facing app designed to offer an alternative to the cannabis clinic model prevalent in the UK has launched a new feature that can connect patients directly to doctors, according to a press release sent to leafie.

Script Assist is a licensed online platform available via Apple and Android apps, as well as its website, which enables private specialist doctors to prescribe medical cannabis directly to patients without the need of a clinic.

The company was launched in 2022 by BBC Junior Apprentice winner Arjun Rajyagor, who was inspired to improve patient access to cannabis after witnessing its potential first-hand. Rajyagor helped his mother access medical cannabis to alleviate the chronic pain she was suffering following a car accident before partnering with a pain management specialist Dr Ilan Lieberman to launch the app.

“Since enabling private doctors to provide holistic, fully streamlined care to their patients, we’ve been hard at work building the remaining technology to connect patients directly to those doctors, and it’s extremely exciting to finally release Find a Doctor,” Rajyagor said.

“Our goal has always been to normalise medical cannabis prescribing by making life easy for doctors and patients with technology, and Find a Doctor represents another huge step on that journey.

“I am excited to see how our technology continues to empower a range of different clinicians, and clinical organisations, to effortlessly prescribe medical cannabis where deemed appropriate for their patients.”

Patients using Script Assist can use the app or website to check their eligibility before choosing a doctor who specialises in their condition. They can then schedule a consultation via a live diary booking system, and if successful go on to pay for, track and order repeated prescriptions of their medicine.

Script Assist also allows patients with private health insurance to see if their policy covers the cost of the initial consultation.

Lauren, a patient using the Script Assist app said “I found my whole process with Script Assist to be such an easy and efficient process. My doctor was really lovely and knowledgeable. My initial appointment wasn’t rushed at all and I was able to have an actual proper chat with him about my condition. More often than not appointments at cannabis clinics previously have been rushed to just a few minutes. I feel strongly about pain management being a holistic practice rather than lasered in on one treatment, which is what I’ve felt like with my experience with Script Assist so far with my clinician taking into account cannabis prescribing amongst a wider set of factors. It’s really felt like I’ve been receiving premium clinical care for my cannabis treatment. Alongside my experience with the clinician, the functions of the Script Assist app have allowed me to feel way more in control of my condition management with daily tracking of symptoms.”
